The title maybe brings some good old memories of your own. Remember the time when you are spending hours and hours on explaining to your parents or even to your grandparents on how to use a computer (a PC possibly) again and again about some very basic tasks? For me (possibly my brother as well), the process is slow and painful. I love my mom, but she is no computer material and I am not a patient son. After hours of lecturing, She still can’t understand the differences between OS and applications ( namely the internet browser). For her, using computer means pressing a whole bunch of colorful icons to get from point A to point B. If there is something on the way, like a pop-up window or a change of layout, she will totally get stuck and ask for our helps (not in a nice way). You see, it is never her faults when things do not work as ther are allegedly supposes to be; it is always our faults that we "mess around” the computer and “disrupt” her computing experiences.( BTW, she cut the power off for whole house once simply because I refused to let her use my desktop)
You may find it amusing that people like my mom still exist. Using a computer is our second-nature nowadays. However, I don’t blame my mom of her inability to operate a computer. Unlike us, she never used any sort of computers when she was growing up (I would love to see her tried one of those early PC/microcomputer though) or entirely embraced the technology until she found out she can watch movies and TV on the internet (I blame YouTube for that and I will also blame Facebook later on).
So, I've been think about this particular problems for awhile, hoping that I can come up with something that save me from the misery. It is obvious that Windows is too complicated for her, despite her disagreement. She is the exactly type of costumer that doesn’t need performance computer with all-rounded and well developed OS , but a basic computer with easy-to-use OS (I didn’t think such costumer exist until my mom proved me wrong). Meego seems to be a perfect candidate and I am convinced that my mom will love Meego, because of the simplicity and functionality. I can’t wait to let her try Meego and hopefully get her off my back.
p.s I know the post is kinda all over the place, but there are too many things to get off my chest. Again , this post is not about bitching or whining about how my mom couldn't use a computer. It is about finding a right solution to my mom, so that she can enjoy the advantages and convenience of the technology like everyone else.
